In August 1915, the White River overflowed its banks and flooded Newport in one of the worst floods since the 1880’s. Whole families took their boats out for a spin around the town. Four-year-old Lady Elizabeth Watson had chicken pox, so she sadly watched out the window while her friends sped by in their new water chariots.
